Jean Monnet Actions in 2021-2027


Jean Monnet Actions promote excellence in teaching and research worldwide in the field of EU studies and foster the dialogue between the academic world and policymakers with particular emphasis on the European integration process.

Actions supported by Jean Monnet activities:

Jean Monnet Modules - short teaching programme in the field of EU studies at a higher education institution:

  • A general or introductory course on EU issues
  • Specialized teaching on EU developments
  • Fully recognised summer courses or intensive courses
  • Three years in length with a minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year (including lectures, seminars, tutorials, a distance learning format, but not individual instruction)

Jean Monnet Chairs - teaching support for university professors

  • Last for three years with a minimum duration of 90 teaching hours per academic year. A Chair must also carry out at least one additional activity per academic year
  • 90 hours include lectures, seminars, and tutorials, including a distance format, but not individual instruction
  • A Chair-holder must be a permanent member of staff at the applicant institution with the rank of “Professor” (not to be a visiting Professor at the time of the application)

Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence - aim at developing synergies between the disciplines and resources in EU Studies and creating joint transnational activities and structural links with academic institutions in other countries

  • Gather the expertise and competences of high-level experts (including Jean Monnet Chairs and Jean Monnet Module coordinators)
  • Have a major role in reaching out to students, policy makers, civil servants, organised civil society and the general public at large

Jean Monnet Support to Associations - aim to contribute to the study of the European integration process

  • Associations should be interdisciplinary and open to all interested professors, teachers and researchers specialising in EU issues
  • Support will be given only to associations that are officially registered and have independent legal status

Jean Monnet Networks foster the creation and development of consortia of international players (HEIs, Centres of Excellence, departments, teams, individual experts, etc.) in the area of EU studies

  • Contribute to gathering information, exchanging practices, building knowledge and promoting the European integration process across the world
  • Support the development of existing networks specific activities and participation of young researchers in EU-related themes

Jean Monnet Projects

  • Support innovation, cross-fertilization and the spread of EU content, a broad range of activities from the design and development of education materials and tools to the organisation of events
  • Based on unilateral proposals
  • Proposed activities may involve other partners and last between 12 and 24 months
